Lansing Housing Commission supports expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

LHC provides funds to expand free book program to 48906 zip code

LANSING, MI – Lansing Housing Commission and Communities In Schools of Michigan have teamed up to bring the love of reading to children. With this partnership, families who live within the 48906 zip code can register for a free new book for their childrenup to the age of 5.

“The Imagination Library is a terrific resource to get children excited about reading,” said Kristine Ranger, resident engagement specialist at Lansing Housing Commission. “We’re excited to participate in this program and look forward to fueling a love of reading among local children.”

Each month, a high quality, age-appropriate book is addressed and sent to all registered children. By adding this new zip code, residents who live in Lansing Housing Commission properties and area neighborhoods can now register for the Imagination Library program.

“In a 2019 survey of residents, adult reading skills were identified as a high priority need,” said Ranger. “This program  gets us one step closer to removing barriers to self-sufficiency and is one component of a larger literacy initiative we are pursuing for all LHC residents.”

For more information, residents can visit lanshc.org  or go to imaginationlibrary.com/check-availability to register for the reading program where they’ll be required to put in their address and make sure they’re in a coverage area. Registration is ongoing. For more information about the Lansing Housing Commission, visit www.lanshc.org.
